Guest speaker

One of the features of the South East Bus Festival that sets it apart from other bus events are the talks by guest speakers. Most have been given by professional busmen who have had long careers in the industry.

The talks each last around thirty to forty minutes and take place in the Cornwallis Room inside the Clive Emson Conference Centre, accessed directly from the exhibition hall (at the end where the stairs are located) in which the sales-stands and model bus displays are situated.

For the 2024 event there will be one guest speaker, Nick Price who is Director - Personnel and Compliance for East Sussex-based Cuckmere Buses, the trading name of Cuckmere Community Bus Ltd., which runs a network of 24 services linking rural communities with local towns using a modern fleet of smart Mercedes-Benz Sprinter buses.

Nick will give a talk about the history of the company which was set up nearly forty-eight years ago in 1976 and the scope of its operations which are carried out wholly using volunteer staff.

The talk will start at 11.30am.

The company is quite unusual in the way it operates but it projects a quality image with a professionally designed livery that suits the rural area that it serves and its services fill gaps that are not served by the main operators in the area, providing a lifeline for those people without their own transport who would otherwise have difficulty reaching their local towns.

We are extremely grateful to Nick for giving up his valuable time to join us at the bus festival and we hope that you will enjoy his talk.
